Buying and selling Ground Notes (Plus Bunny Island) – ALSC Weblog

Beneath the charming classes and awards ceremonies of #ALAAC22, the exhibition corridor (formally referred to as The Library Market and actually underground), the entire convention has had an upbeat ambiance. On Friday, opening evening of the exhibition corridor, publishers and sellers truly cheered as librarians and different conventioners descended the escalator. Everybody was so excited to be again!

Rabbit Island

That they had consolation bunnies! I repeat, THEY HAD COMFORT BUNNIES lined up in the midst of the present ground for all to go to and pet. I virtually handed out from the cuteness. Then I discovered that these had been consolation rabbits in coaching, able to be despatched to Uvalde, TX. Swoon with some tears. I really like the generosity and empathy of our library neighborhood.

Authors and illustrators galore

Publishers have definitely made up for misplaced time by bringing in a bunch of authors and illustrators for e-book signings. Previous and current ALA New Media Award winners reminiscent of Donna Barba Higuera (2022 Newbery winner), Michaela Goade (2020 Caldecott winner), and Jerry Craft (2020 Newbery winner) and plenty of extra signed their books. Librarians could have stood in lengthy traces for RL Stine, however there have been so many authors and illustrators that it appeared such as you simply needed to flip round to search out somebody whose books you like.

Swag up for grabs

The swag this 12 months virtually overwhelmed me, however in the long run I am actually glad I’ve so many ARCs and stickers and buttons and bookmarks and flyers to offer to youngsters (or different workers) in my library once I get again. To not point out some cool new tote luggage to hold all of it!

Now let’s simply hope I can discover a strategy to get every part again house…

Convention Visitor Contributor Meg Beade Stowe (she/her/her) is a youth companies librarian on the Kitsap Regional Library. She presently serves on the Committee on Early Childhood Applications and Companies and is a brand new co-chair of that committee. She seems ahead to all of the early studying applications at ALA and needs to attend as many as attainable. She can also be trying ahead to the Newbery100! Occasion and hopefully some favourite authors and illustrators too. As a baby she wished to be a marine biologist when she grew up. Now that she has a Masters in Library and Info Science, she finds it humorous that she works at a library system on a peninsula, so there may be water throughout her.

Please notice that the views expressed right here as a visitor put up don’t characterize the official place of ALA or ALSC.
